Cause

  • Trying to use the Snip & Sketch application to take a screen snippet in Windows 11.

Resolution

  1. Open Installed Apps through Settings in Windows.
  2. Search for Snipping Tool.
  3. Click the three dots to the right of the Snipping Tool application and select Uninstall.
  4. If the computer was upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 10, navigate to the System32 in Windows.old. Open up the file explorer and search this File path: C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32 
  5. Once in System32 in the Windows.old folder, find SnippingTool.exe.
    SnippingTool.exe inside of System32 in Windows.old
  6. Option 1: Right click the .exe file and select Show more options > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) 
    Option 2: Open SnippingTool.exe, right click the icon on the taskbar, then select Pin to taskbar.
