Checking for and Listening to Messages

With analog telephone service, your campus phone's dialtone will "stutter" on and off a few times before going to the normal steady tone.  Make it a habit to check when you first get in to your office.  Some residential phones go "off-hook" by themselves to check for this stutter and then provide an indication for you.

A DTerm will have a red light lit and a message in the display saying VMM.

A ST500 SIP phone will have no indication or stutter.

Dialing in to Voicemail

Normally you check for messages from your office phone itself.  Call 7590 and enter your Security Code.  The system will prompt you through the steps to check.  Dialing in also gives you full access to your account.

If you need to check from a campus phone other than the one your account is on, dial 7590.  If it asks for a Security Code, press "star" and it will play the Main Menu default announcement "If you know the extension".  Press "pound" and it will ask for a Mailbox Number.  Your Mailbox Number will normally be 1 plus your 4-digit campus number (for example, number 7000 would be Mailbox 17000).  After the Mailbox Number is entered, it will ask for your Security Code just like if you were dialing from your desk.

If you check from an off-campus phone, or a campus phone without a Voicemail Account, you will start at that Main Menu Default Announcement "If you know the extension", so you just need to press "pound", enter the Mailbox Number, then the Security Code.

Checking from the Web

Unified Messaging

UM is a Voicemail to Email service.  This is the most convenient option for ST500 SIP users since their email will almost always be active but they may not have their phone logged in.  There is an $85 one-time cost for the software license.  Voicemail messages are converted to WAV files and attached to an email from the Voicemail server.  Opening the attachment will launch the WAV file to play in your default media player.
