Banner is UT Martin's Student Information System, a modular software package licensed from Ellucian, formerly SunGard Higher Education. This system is used to gather and distribute information about students from the time they first contact the university until they graduate. Banner also contains data pertaining to faculty and staff, course catalog, accounts receivable, and financial aid. Banner Self-Service is the web interface which enables students and faculty to access and update certain portions of their information online. For example, students can register for classes, check their course schedule, and pay their fees, from any location via a web browser. Additional features to the Banner Self-Service interface are continually being developed.
Banner supplies the core needs for a student information system, with scalability and flexibility, enabling the Information Technology Services staff to maintain a state-of-the-art student information system within the framework of a modestly sized staff.
